We’re testing out the Kate Farms Nutrition Shake as a part of my weight gain journey. We need calories!
I ordered a case of 12, coffee flavor (I really hope there’s no actual caffeine in these because I drank one at 8pm…). I paid $40.80 after applying a 20% discount. Otherwise, I believe it’s $51 for a case of 12. These arrived literally after 2 days. Freaky fast shipping for it not being an Amazon package.

I threw them in the fridge and let them chill for a few hours.
Had a great Push work out. Came home, rested a bit and then grabbed a Kate Farms shake around 8pm.
Taste = 8/10; I do think it’s an acquired taste. It wasn’t thick, which I liked. The coffee flavor was decent! Like I said, I really hope there wasn’t actual caffeine in it… I guess we’ll find out if I can’t fall asleep in the next hour. Comparing this taste to the ENU drinks I’ve had, I’d say I liked Kate Farms better.
Effect on Body = 7/10; I’m not sure if this rating actually makes sense?… 7/10 meaning it did kinda sit weird in my stomach after like 20 minutes of drinking it. BUT, I will say, I drank it pretty dang fast. Once I stopped for a bit and then sipped the rest, I felt better. I think next time, I’ll drink it over the course of like an hour. But given it’s lactose-free, I wasn’t pooping my pants which already makes this a winner. I truly think my body wasn’t / isn’t ready for the big caloric intake (in a short amount of time) so it probably just wanted me to slow down.
Weight gain = ?/10; We won’t necessarily know this until we continue to drink and work these into my food journey. FYI – At the day & time I’m writing this, I’m 91 lbs. It does have 330 calories and I feel like compared to my OWYN protein drinks (170 calories), these do feel “bulky”. That’s definitely not the right word, but you know what I mean. Calorie bulky. I can definitely see how these will quickly help contribute to my weight gain if I drink maybe 3 a week. I don’t want to overdo it.

I use the Yuka app sometimes to see how “healthy” the foods I eat are. I scanned the Kate Farms shake and it showed “Bad – 10/100“. Which I’m not entirely sure how they measure “bad”. The only information they gave me was:

Additives… whatever that means. Calories “too caloric” which like… yes, I’m trying to eat more calories? Sugar. Yeah I guess for 11 fl oz, that’s probably a lot of sugar. Overall, we’re trying to get more calories so I don’t think this is necessarily “bad” for me. But like I mentioned, I’ll likely only have these a few times a week.
I still have 11 cartons to go through, so we’ll see if anything changes. In the meantime, I think I’ll do the following based on my 1st experience with Kate Farms:
- Drink over the course of 1 hour
- Drink either right after breakfast or right after lunch (I don’t think I want it right before bed…)
- SHAKE WELL
- Eat granola or something with it (Given it’s kinda easy to drink, it might be nice to pair it with something drier like a granola bar or nuts)
OVERALL SCORE: 8/10
